Caresheet - Dubia Roach
Dubia Roach or Blaptica Dubia are usually kept as a live-food for many critters.
Other names they are known by are orange-spotted roaches, the Guyana spotted roach, and the Argentinian wood roach.
Ventilation
We believe high ventilation is key with keeping Dubia Roaches, By having a high ventilation you prevent mould and excessive moisture collecting in the bottom of the enclosure [Leading cause to foul smelling enclosures].
A dryer enclosure will also help prevent any leftover foods from moulding. Drilling the lid fully and several areas around the top of the side should be more than adequate, just ensure they are small enough to prevent escape or covered with a fine mesh.
Substrate
Keeping the bottom of the enclosure bare makes it a lot easier to clean up frass [ Roach poop], Left over food scraps and excess moisture.
Housing
Use a really useful box or storage box that is either solid colour [Best is black] or clear and in a darker location.
Ensure they have plenty of ventilation to keep the humidity lower [between 40% and 60%].
You will want to keep the enclosure some where warm between 20 and 35C, The warmth will help keep them active, growing and reproducing steadily.
Stack multiple egg crate to allow the roaches somewhere to climb, hide and huddle within, they prefer being social huddled close in dark areas.
Food
Food is quite simple, feed them vegetable scraps at least twice weekly. [ensure they can eat it before it goes mouldy, if it does reduce the quantity.] Foods such as leafy greens, carrot, squash are great foods, Occasionally you can offer sliced orange. Citrus juice seems to encourage breeding within the colony, However if you are using them for live feeding do not feed citrus 24-48 hours before use.
Avoid high protein diets as they will store excessive nitrogen from their waste it as uric acid which protein will increase.
